Cafeteria Mural
Northwest Middle School
Equally important is how it was made. A cohort of youth from the One Summer Chicago program trained with our team to become professional artists—muralists, at that. Over the project they learned job-site safety, surface prep and priming, scaling a design to a wall, clean edging and color mixing, teamwork under deadlines, and how to finish with protective coatings. They built portfolio pieces, earned real work experience, and took pride in seeing their efforts brighten a community space used by every student.
Today, the lunchroom glows with optimism. Students enter a room that celebrates reading, nature, and the arts—and the mural stands as a daily reminder that when young people are given skills and trust, they can change the look and feel of a whole school.

Entryway Mural
Wilma Rudolph Elementary Center for Learning
Installed this summer by the Art of Giving Foundation and youth from One Summer Chicago, Together We Grow transforms a school wall into a bright celebration of inclusivity and childhood joy. In a sun-washed palette of peaches, golds, and greens, a smiling sun, soft clouds, and rolling hills frame three oversized flowers. Silhouettes of two children—one running and one seated in a wheelchair—meet at the garden, embodying friendship, access, and shared growth.
Centered above them, the hand-lettered message “TOGETHER WE GROW” invites every student, family, and staff member to see themselves as part of one community, learning and blooming side by side. The mural’s playful forms read clearly from a distance while its gentle colors create a calm, welcoming entry point—turning an everyday pass-through into a daily reminder that creativity and belonging thrive here.

The mural features a picturesque park scene brimming with playful animals, blooming flowers, and a radiant sun shining warmly over it all, creating a sense of harmony and cheerfulness.
This mural was brought to life through the collaborative efforts of the Kozminski students, who eagerly painted the animals and flowers, and a dedicated group of community volunteers who contributed their time and talent. At the heart of this inspiring project was the Art of Giving Foundation, leading the initiative and ensuring that creativity and connection were woven into every brushstroke.

Mural and Cafeteria Renovation
Philip Randolph Elementary School
The Art of Giving Foundation proudly led the installation of a vibrant, Minecraft-themed mural at Philip Randolph Elementary School, bringing creativity and community pride to the forefront. This interactive mural, a favorite among students, reimagines the beloved pixelated world of Minecraft as a depiction of West Englewood, where the school is located. Adding a personal touch, the students painted Minecraft characters to represent themselves, strategically placing these unique figures throughout the mural.
This project was a true community effort, with instrumental support from the school’s principal and art director, whose dedication helped bring the vision to life. Alongside the mural, a brand-new drop ceiling was installed in the cafeteria to replace the old, dusty, and deteriorating one. Sponsored and installed by Trellis, Inc., this improvement not only enhanced the room’s aesthetics but also created a safer and more inviting space for students to gather.
Together, the mural and renovation reflect the collaborative spirit of the Randolph Elementary community, transforming the school into a more engaging and inspiring environment for its students.

Auditorium
Philip Randolph Elementary School
The auditorium at Philip Randolph Elementary School has been transformed into an inspiring space through a powerful mural installation led by the Art of Giving Foundation. This striking artwork captures a pivotal moment in history, showcasing prominent African American leaders who have driven change and shaped the world. Figures such as Barack and Michelle Obama, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, and the school’s namesake, Philip Randolph, are depicted in a unified scene that celebrates their resilience, vision, and impact.
The mural serves as a visual reminder to students that greatness is achievable and that they, too, have the potential to lead and inspire. By highlighting leaders who look like them, it instills a sense of pride and empowerment, reminding students of their own ability to create positive change.
As the backdrop for the school’s major events and gatherings, this mural adds a sense of purpose and gravitas to the space, turning the auditorium into more than just a venue—it becomes a place where history and future potential converge, inspiring generations to dream big and act boldly.

CPS GUIDELINES FOR MURAL INSTALLATIONS:

These design guidelines are linked here for your reference and guidance.
